The state-owned Central Electricity Board of Mauritius has opened a tender for consultants to assist with the implementation of four 10 MW solar plus storage facilities.
Both international and Mauritius-based companies are invited to apply. Applications must be delivered by post on or before 10 July, with full details available to download on CEB''s website.
Mauritius had 108 MW of deployed solar at the end of last year, according to figures from the International Renewable Energy Agency. This latest tender follows a request for consultants to support a 15 MW solar project, which ran in May.

The four projects will have a combined capacity of 100 MW and will be constructed by independent power producers, the tender document says, without providing further technical or financial details. Interested consultants have until May 19 to submit their offers.
In April, Landscope Mauritius, a government-owned property developer, issued a tender for 10 MW of solar capacity in La Valette, Bambous, a town on the northwestern coast of Mauritius.
According to the latest statistics from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Mauritius had 110 MW of installed capacity by the end of 2022. The nation did not install any new capacity last year, according to IRENA.
In March 2022, the Central Electricity Board (CEB) of Mauritius issued two different tenders for the deployment of 140 MW of solar-plus-storage capacity. The government of Mauritius has also been supporting distributed solar through net metering and rebate schemes.
The Central Electricity Board (CEB) of Mauritius has launched two different tenders for the deployment of solar-plus-storage systems with a combined capacity of 140 MWp. The authorities have not yet disclosed the separate capacity of the storage systems in the two projects.
The CEB of Mauritius, operating under the Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities, issued the two procurement calls for renewable energy in the form of a request for proposals (RFP). The first tender covers the development, financing, and implementation of a 100 MW solar project, under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA). Interested bidders can apply until June 22, 2022.
The second tender relates to the procurement of power from a 40 MW renewable hybrid facility comprising a solar and battery energy storage system. Interested independent power producers are required to submit their bids before June 15, 2022.
The calls for expression of interest for the two separate solar-plus-storage capacities are in line with Mauritius'' objective of increasing the share of renewable energy in its power generation mix. The Government of Mauritius is planning to increase the use of renewable energy from the current level of around 22%, to 35% by 2025 and to 60% by 2030.
Over 80% of the total electricity is produced from oil and coal-fired power plants. Through these two renewable energy projects, the archipelago country in East Africa looks to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels. The country also has hydro-power facilities, capable of generating 60 MW.
