Niestetalis a municipality in the district of Kassel. It''s part oft the federal state Hessen inthe center of Germany. It is located on the eastern bank of the Fulda, 4 kmeast of the centre of Kassel.
Both districts formed Niestetal back in 1972. Niestetal was named after a smallriver called Nieste, which is floating through both disctricts. Niestetalhas 11,400 inhabitants and measures 22km² in size.
Heiligenrode is the oldest of the two villages and was founded nearly 900years ago. The protestantic church as well as the closest suroundeing buildingsare from this time. Sandershausen was founded a few years later in 1167 AD butunfortunately most of the buildings were destroyed in the second world war.Originally a third village was located in this area. But Umbach has been deserted during battles in the middle ages.

For theolder ones we have two great primary schools. One is named after the famousdanish writer Astrid Lindgren. Wilhelm Leuschner is the name of our secondaryschool. With over 11.000 inhabitants we also have a big variety of jobs and ourcompanies offer vocational training and traineeships. Because of the junction tohighway A7 we can offer the advantage that there is an easy connection to all parts of Germany. Frankfurt is only 2hours away, Cologne 2 ½ and Munich approximately 4 to 5 hours, as well as Berlin.We also have a partner city in Hungary called Sarkad.

Die Gemeinde Niestetal, die aus den Ortsteilen Heiligenrode und Sandershausen sowie dem Gut Ellenbach (Gemarkung Sandershausen) und dem Gut Windhausen (Gemarkung Heiligenrode) besteht, liegt westlich des Kaufunger Walds und wird von der Nieste durchflossen. Die Nieste mündet in Sandershausen in die Fulda. Die südliche Grenze von Heiligenrode wird von Osten nach Westen von der Losse markiert. Die Bundesautobahn 7 durchkreuzt die Gemeinde Niestetal mittig zwischen beiden Ortsteilen.
Niestetal grenzt im Norden an die Gemeinde Staufenberg (im Landkreis Göttingen in Niedersachsen), im Osten an die Gemeinde Nieste, im Süden an die Gemeinde Kaufungen (beide im Landkreis Kassel) sowie im Westen an die kreisfreie Stadt Kassel.
Die Zusammenlegung der früher eigenständigen Gemeinden Heiligenrode und Sandershausen zur Gemeinde Niestetal erfolgte im Zuge der Gebietsreform in Hessen kraft Landesgesetz am 1. August 1972.[4][5]
