The advantage of AC-coupled batteries is that they are easier to configure into existing solar systems, especially in systems with microinverters where the solar inversion happens on the panel itself.

The disadvantage of AC-coupled batteries is that a little bit of energy is lost to heat during each inversion, which reduces the round-trip efficiency of the battery system. In other words, you get less solar energy out of your battery than you put in.

LFP batteries are especially suited for solar self-consumption because they are quite resilient to frequent charge and discharge cycles and prefer to operate a low average state of discharge.

One often overlooked feature when comparing solar battery brands is monitoring software and customer support. When it comes to monitoring your battery’s performance, the Enphase Enlighten app is highly regarded by customers and industry professionals. The Enphase App currently has 4.6 out of 5 stars with nearly 60,000 ratings on the Apple App store. For comparison, the Tesla app used to monitor the Powerwall has 3.7 stars through 12,000 ratings.

As for customer support, Enphase gets mixed reviews — which is par for the course in the tech industry. On Reddit, customer support experiences seem to be generally positive and constructive.
