TotalEnergies has been present in Azerbaijan since1996, where it owns a35%stake in the Absheron gas and condensate field and holds a5%stake in the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan(BTC) pipeline. The Absheron gas and condensate field is located in the Caspian Sea 100km south-east of the coast. It is operated by JOCAP(Joint Operating Company of Absheron Petroleum).
The production of the first phase of development started up in earlyJuly2023. This first phase connects a subsea production well to a new gas processing platform, itself linked to SOCAR''s(State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan) existing facilities on Oil Rocks.
In June2023, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the development of wind and solar projects with a capacity of500MW combined with energy storage systems projects for the national electricity grid.
We signed a cooperation agreement with SOCAR(State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan) to carry out drone-based methane detection and measurement campaigns. Through this Cooperation Agreement, TotalEnergies and SOCAR reaffirm their commitment to work together to implement best practices for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, with a particular focus on methane. InDecember2023, the first methane detection campaign was carried out on Absheron facilities on Oil Rocks.
We are active in Azerbaijan through our affiliate Saft, which markets storage and backup batteries to industrial customers in the country. Saft batteries are mainly used by railway, civil aviation and oil industry in Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates'' Masdar company have exchanged views on the future construction of energy storage systems, Report informs, citing the Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency under the Ministry of Energy.
The discussions took place during a meeting between the Agency''s Director, Javid Abdullayev, and the delegation led by Masdar''s Chief Operating Officer, Abdulaziz Alobaidli.
These projects include a 445 MW solar power plant in Bilasuvar district, a 315 MW solar power plant in Banka settlement of Neftchala district, and a 240 MW wind power plant in Absheron-Garadagh district.
