The Corvus Blue Whale marine battery energy storage system is designed for use in Cruise, Ro-Pax, Ro-Ro, Mega Yachts, and other vessels where the operational profile calls for low C-Rate, slow battery system charge and discharge rates, and emissions-free sailing over long periods of time.

Blue Whale was developed with large marine energy storage installations in mind, specifically battery systems that require more than 10MWh total system energy. Optimization for energy density enables Blue Whale to deliver more power. This in turn extends the vessel’s ability to maintain zero-emission operations, including during transit through emissions-restricted zones and zero-emission port stays.

The Corvus Orca ESS, the most installed marine energy storage system worldwide, set the industry standard for maritime energy storage reliability and safety. The Blue Whale design incorporates the unsurpassed safety features of the Orca, and additionally provides key advances required to meet the energy demands of large vessels. Designed for smart and sustainable energy usage, the carport solar system uses Moura''s lead-carbon batteries to store surplus photovoltaic (PV) energy generated during the day.

Partnering with ITEMM – Institute of Technology Edson Mororó Moura – the project allows Moura to test other energy storage system applications such as PV power smoothing, voltage control and frequency regulation.

The system also features a battery management system (BMS) which controls a new charging algorithm based on smart overcharging control, enhancing the system lifetime up to 10 years at 80% Depth-of-Discharge (DoD).

With the solar panels installed in November 2020, the PV system provides up to 250 kW. This additional renewable element complements the sustainability of the project, which utilizes highly recyclable lead-carbon batteries.
