The topic of electromobility remains a recurrent subject at events of all levels, as well as at global forums and conferences, given its significance not only for the Mexican automotive industry but also for the worldwide automotive sector undergoing technological restructuring that will impact the entire supply chain.

While the presented topics covered areas like solar energy, cross-border trade, vehicle fleet decarbonization, and human talent, one of the most compelling topics, not only at this forum but also in our country, is the issue of electric vehicle charging infrastructure. This topic is critical for the development of electromobility in Mexico.

In Mexico, from January 2022 to December 2022, 5,631 fully electric vehicles were sold, with Mexico City the region with the highest number of units sold — 5,631 fully electric, 4,575 plug-in hybrid units, and 40,859 hybrid units — according to data from INEGI as of March 2023. However, this surge in eco-friendly mobility also brings significant challenges, not only in terms of production, supply chain, and public policies but also concerning energy and charging infrastructure.

Electrical Grid Capacity and Stability: One of the main technical challenges in expanding charging infrastructure is maintaining the capacity and stability of the electrical grid, especially with a concentration of charging stations in certain areas. Ensuring grid stability and sufficient capacity to handle increased demand is crucial. According to the National Electric Mobility Strategy (ENME) goals, BEVs are projected to represent 50% of light and heavy vehicle sales in Mexico by 2030. If this projection is met, improvements to the electrical grid will be essential.

Mexico City, November 15th, 2022 – With an increasing number of electric vehicles on the road, the main challenge electric mobility faces is to guarantee an adequate supply of electricity that ensures range, low cost and most important, practical, efficient, and advanced charging solutions.

Evergo, the most sophisticated and largest network of electric charging stations in the region, arrives in Mexico through the acquisition of E-Drive, a leading company in providing solutions for charging electric vehicles, in order to promote electric mobility throughout the country. In the upcoming years it will offer a powerful network of more than 15,000 new public and residential charging stations to connect major Mexican areas, with an investment of USD$200 millions over the next five years.

Both companies combine their experience to expand existing residential networks with a leading-edge technology system, like "My Evergo"; a pioneering charging service for electric corporate fleets, "Evergo Fleet"; as well as the deployment of the largest and most sophisticated public charging network in the country.

Evergo Mexico offers level 2 alternating current stations of up to 20kW; and level 3 direct current chargers of up to 600kW of power. These chargers allow full charge of a vehicle in less than half an hour. Another competitive advantage offered by Evergo is that electric vehicle users will be able to connect through a common intelligent platform. All stations will be affiliated to the network used in an increasingly growing number of countries.

At the same event, Daniel López, co-founder and CCO at E-DRIVE, explained: “We are very excited to work with Evergo, with the shared goal of revolutionizing electromobility in Mexico. This project will allow us to deploy the largest and most powerful network of charging stations, a move that will encourage confidence in the use of electric vehicles throughout the Mexican Republic, supported by ''cutting-edge'' technology".

Evergo is part of InterEnergy Group and already operates successfully in the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Panama. In these countries the company is building the largest and most sophisticated network of electric charging stations. In the upcoming year it will have a presence in Aruba, Puerto Rico, Paraguay, Uruguay and Spain.

E-DRIVE, a company that is 100% Mexican, has been in operation in the country for the past seven years. Throughout this period, it has positioned itself as the leading company in electric vehicle charging solutions, with a market share of more than 85%. It is a key supplier to those companies that lead the transportation electrification movement in Mexico.

In less than 10 years, both organizations have positioned themselves at the forefront of the electric mobility industry in each of their operating markets. Their shared vision is to promote the transition to a more sustainable mobility, through the deployment of a network of extensive and reliable charging stations.

Evergo is the most advanced and sophisticated charger platform for electric vehicles in the region. Its mission is to create a network that allows us to reach any point in the country, in a sustainable and reliable way, moving us towards a more environmentally responsible future.

The operation of these charging stations is under a self-service model, through an application, available on the App Store and Google Play, through which the user can consult the availability of the nearest charging station, plan their route, reserve, pay through a virtual wallet and start charging. An ecosystem that maximizes the user experience, with the purpose of facilitating, and promoting more sustainable mobility. https://evergo /

E-DRIVE is a 100% Mexican company, leader in charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in Mexico. With more than 15,000 chargers installed in residential, commercial and public settings, it has delivered more than 7 million charging sessions, thus facilitating the driving of more than 75 million kilometers with zero emissions. Thanks to our unique experience in the country, we have become the main ally of the automotive industry, private companies, fleets and governments. https://

At the crossroads of electric mobility in Mexico, industry leaders recently converged to unravel the challenges and key insights into the production and widespread adoption of electric vehicles (EVs). Clear consensuses on imperatives to shape the future of sustainable mobility in the country are necessary to properly adopt electrification. "Working on these issues is fundamental to guarantee a cleaner and more sustainable future for our country," Filiberto Tamez, COO, Car Fast, emphasized.

The world has already chosen electric vehicles as the way forward, creating a sense of urgency in the adoption of these technologies. Lorenzo Ortego, CEO, Voltway, stated. "Regardless of where we are, we have to do it. The world has already decided that the future belongs to electric vehicles, no matter what."

Standardization and charging compatibility emerged as critical challenges toward adoption, underscoring the importance of safety. Meanwhile, exploring challenges in industrial zones and transmission costs highlighted the need for specific support. Kijana Mack, Executive Director, Mexico Energy Partners, noted, the highest cost is energy transmission. "We have to consider the growth of vehicles in a saturated network," she said.

Irma Velazquez, CEO, Energy and Water Development Corp, highlighted the importance of addressing the different realities of the country in terms of purchasing power, infrastructure, and other key elements needed to ensure the growth of new technologies. "The greatest challenge of any innovation is always the assessment of what the need and conditions are." She advocated for a communication strategy adapted to the diversity of Mexico in its journey toward electric mobility.

At the core of these discussions lies access to charging infrastructure, a critical component according to the participants. "As electric mobility gains ground, it is necessary to ensure access for all users," said Tamez. Rafael Valdez, Commercial Director Mexico, Central America, and Caribbean, CIRCUTOR, stressed that even robust electrical systems need careful integration into existing infrastructure to avoid stress on charging points and to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles.
