Belgrade Airport, member of the VINCI Airports network since 2018, has become the first airport worldwide offering free off grid, all-solar charging of e-vehicles. In partnership with Beam Global, five independent EV ARC™ solar stations have been installed deployed at the Airport''s Premium Parking P1, enabling passengers and visitors to charge their vehicles using renewable energy sources. This initiative reflects VINCI Airports'' commitment to decarbonizing the entire mobility chain while offering the best possible quality of service to passengers.

This project represents a milestone in developing sustainable infrastructure in Serbia and actively contributes to the airport''s innovation and environmental accountability. Belgrade Airport is advancing this approach through various initiatives, using energy from the solar park at the Airport, arranging green areas, waste recycling and maintaining biodiversity.

In partnership with Beam Global, five independent EV ARC solar stations have been installed at the airport''s Premium Parking P1, enabling passengers and visitors to charge their vehicles using renewable energy sources. Each station can charge two vehicles simultaneously.

"We are very proud that we have the opportunity to introduce this ground-breaking solution for our passengers. Our commitment to environmental sustainability and our partnership with companies such as BEAM Global show that it is possible to provide additional comfort for passengers with a minimum impact on the living environment. Charging vehicles using solar energy is an important step towards our goal – net zero CO₂ emissions by 2050,"  said Chivoine Rem, Belgrade Airport CEO.

According to VINCI Airports, this project represents a milestone in developing sustainable infrastructure in Serbia and actively contributes to the airport''s innovation and environmental accountability. Belgrade is advancing this approach through various initiatives, using energy from the solar park at the airport, arranging green areas, waste recycling and maintaining biodiversity.

The technology centre has now started with 200 engineers. In Serbia, the company primarily wants to push IT and software development. A report specifically mentions infotainment, mapping technology and also “advanced driver assistance systems”.

As Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated at the opening, negotiations and work had been going on in the background for “at least a year and a half”. “This arrival is very significant for us,” Vucic said. “Rivian is the most innovative company in the whole world when it comes to electric vehicles.”

“We need the best engineers, we chose Belgrade on purpose and I am happy that we can welcome our new colleagues,” said Wassym Bensaid, Senior Vice President of Software Development at Rivian.

However, it will probably remain at the development location for the time being: Rivian has already been rumoured to have various plans for vehicle production in Europe, for example for its electric SUVs and pickups. A memorandum of understanding was signed with Mercedes-Benz in September to jointly build electric vans. However, this project was recently stopped by the company because it wanted to concentrate on the B2B and B2C business in the USA in order to achieve a positive cash flow there.

In order to facilitate this sponsored Driving on Sunshine initiative, Beam Global previously secured an agreement with Belgrade Airport, part of VINCI Airports, an operator of over 70 airports in 14 nations across the globe, to operate the network in prime locations at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport with further cooperation with VINCI Airports to be considered.

Five solar-powered EV ARC™ units are now deployed for public EV charging at the Belgrade Airport. Each off-grid unit can charge multiple vehicles at once, making it a resilient and sustainable solution for the airport''s high-traffic environment. The systems are positioned in P1, Prime, the closest car park to the terminal building.

"We are proud to be at the forefront of promoting sustainable energy solutions in Serbia through this sponsorship with Beam Global," said Siniša Pratljačić, CEO at Globos Osiguranje. "By sponsoring EV ARC™ products at one of Serbia''s most frequented locations, we are taking an important step in our commitment to environmental responsibility and green innovation."

This first-of-its-kind partnership not only enhances Serbia''s green infrastructure but also demonstrates Beam Global''s potential to expand its unique EV charging solutions globally through sponsorship and owner-operator models.
