We source and distribute quality products from credible brands that meet International Standards like International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), and Lighting Global Standards (VeraSol). Jon Pittar is the founder and Managing Director at Solar Solutions, with over 34 years of business governance and senior management experience in PNG, including 8 years as general manager of Colgate Palmolive PNG. Together our Board of Directors and owners have over 120 years of collective senior management experience in PNG; making sure that the Solar Solutions Technical and Sustainable Development team works with our partners and stakeholders to formulate sustainable solutions and create value for money, ensuring "no one is left behind"
With a growing team of over 20 staff, our Head Office is located in Port Moresby, Waigani with a branch in Lae, Toptown. Our energy product range includes pico solar units, solar home lighting systems, micro-grid solution, solar streetlights, solar freezers, vaccine freezers for cold storage, and clean cook stoves and cookware.
One of the primary advantages of this initiative is its commercial sustainability. Farmers can store their produce as needed, while District Development Authorities (DDAs) have the opportunity to finance the installation of the units.
This development is expected to have a profound impact on market access for rural farmers. With improved storage capabilities, farmers can reduce post-harvest losses and better preserve their products, enabling them to access larger markets and boost local economies.
Additionally, the use of solar energy aligns with global sustainability goals, offering an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional refrigeration methods.
Brad Jackson, a Kokopo resident with eight years of experience in PNG agriculture, is spearheading the initiative in partnership with AgBook Agribusiness and Training Advisory.
Having previously worked with the Cocoa Board, Jackson has been in discussions with the Fresh Produce Development Agency (FPDA), which is keen to explore funding options for the project.
