Energy cells, the operator of the electricity storage system, has already delivered all the necessary equipment to the Utena Battery Park, one of the four under construction. In September, the battery cubes and other equipment will be connected and testing will begin. The entire project to improve the security of the energy system is expected to be completed and all four battery parks installed by the end of this year.

''The Energy Cells energy storage facility system is particularly important before synchronisation with the continental European grids - the battery parks will ensure uninterrupted electricity supply in the country. After synchronisation, the battery parks will be able to store solar or wind energy and release it during peak consumption hours. This in turn will contribute to lower electricity prices'', said Dainius Kreivys, the Minister of Energy.

''We have reached an important milestone in the project - all the equipment needed for the energy storage facility system is already in Lithuania. Transformers, inverters and controllers have been transported to the battery parks, and the battery cubes have arrived in Utena. The remaining battery parks will receive the energy storage units in September'', said R. Štilinis.

The energy storage facility system of 312 battery cubes - 78 each in battery parks in Vilnius, Šiauliai and Alytus and Utena regions – will provide Lithuania with an instantaneous energy reserve. The Energy Cells storage facility system to be integrated into the Lithuanian grid will have a total combined capacity of 200 megawatts (MW) and 200 megawatt-hours (MWh).

The parks with lithium-ion batteries, produced by a consortium of companies Fluence and Siemens Energy from the US and Germany, will operate as a single system, one of the largest and one of the first in Europe. The energy storage system will be able to deliver electricity to the grid in 1 second.

Energy cells expects to launch the instantaneous isolated operating reserve service in December this year. The Utena battery park is the fastest in progress, as this part of the system is planned to be tested during the isolated energy system operation tests.

The 87.6 million euro funding has been allocated to Energy cells for installation of an electricity storage facilities system under the EU''s Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) called NextGenerationEU, under the plan New Generation Lithuania. The total value of the project that will ensure instantaneous energy reserve and isolated operation for Lithuania will amount to 109 million euro.

100% of shares of Energy Cells, which was appointed as the energy storage facility system operator, belongs to the EPSO-G energy transmission and exchange group of companies. The rights and responsibilities of the sole shareholder of EPSO-G are implemented by the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Lithuania.

Energy Cells installed and integrated a system of four energy storage batterie parks with a total capacity of 200 megawatts (MW) and 200 megawatt-hours (MWh) into Lithuania''s energy system.

Energy Cells installed four 50 MW and 50 MWh energy storage battery parks at transformer substations in Vilnius, Šiauliai, Alytus, and Utena. It is currently the largest project in the Baltics and one of the largest of its kind in Europe.

Lithuania''s system of electricity storage facilities is vital to ensure the security of Lithuania''s energy system and the possibility to operate in an isolated mode. The energy storage system, which will ensure the operation of the instantaneous isolated electricity reserve for Lithuania before the synchronisation with the continental European networks (CEN), will be used for the integration of energy produced from renewable energy sources after the synchronisation.

The consortium of Siemens Energy and Fluence will install and service the high-capacity energy storage system. On the basis of Joint Activity, the companies implementing the project won an international public tender for the purchase of system installation services and energy storage technologies.

According to the signed €109 million worth contract, Siemens Energy and Fluence will design, manufacture, and connect the energy storage system to the electricity transmission system, as well as provide warranty service for 15 years after the system is switched on.

An international tender for the design, manufacture, installation, and technical maintenance services for Lithuania''s battery energy storage system has been announced.

The Government of the Republic of Lithuania has appointed Energy Cells as the operator of storage facilities that will provide Lithuania with an instantaneous electricity reserve.
